A new green insulation product for the South African market has won the approval of a doctoral thesis candidate at the Stellenbosch University Sustainability Institute, in the field of social / sustainable development, Theresa Wilson, MA.
As founder of Greenspace, Theresa heard about Eco-Insulation early last year and after some research decided to install the product above the ceiling of her house in Somerset West. During the very warm and dry Cape summer her home was extremely hot, in her own words, “There was a hotbox effect with sunlight coming in through the windows and the space above the ceiling becoming superheated due to direct sunlight on the roof." Theresa chose Eco-Insulation after studying its low embodied energy content and its socio-economic footprint. Theresa said, “Instead of installing energy consuming air conditioning we blocked the sun coming through the windows and insulated the roof. We saw an 8-10°C reduction in the summer temperatures on average. In winter we did not need extra heating other than the fireplace."
The product is milled from a low energy process using recycled newspapers, thereby supporting a number of community recycling initiatives.

Please pass on my thanks to your Installs team that did my installation, they picked up on an issue with my geyser and notified my dad who was onsite during the installation, thus they allowed us to avert a geyser bursting and all that goes with that, as well as doing a very professional job, clean and neat with very little clean-up require post installation.

We moved in to our new home last year July, our house was freezing so we had under floor heating installed the whole of down stairs. It made a huge difference. The only problem was as soon as we went upstairs to the bedrooms it was freezing. We then realized we had no insulation in our roof. Our house was absolutely freezing. We then went to the home expo at Northgate Dome were we happened to see your company. We requested a quote which was very reasonable and had you guys install the next week. It is a year later and can not explain how happy we have been. We are almost over winter now and it has been so warm in our house. I have recommended you to all my clients. I just want to thank-you for the insulation you supplied at our offices last year. We have been in our current offices for a couple of years. The winters were extremely cold and the summers were very hot.
Since your insulation was installed we have nice cool offices in summer and warm offices in winter. We never used our heaters since Eco-Insulation was installed. Last year we kept our heaters on all the time during the winter and it was not even efficient.

I would like to give you some feed back on the insulation that you installed in my house's roof.
Before
Before we had the insulation installed we had quite cold winters and hot summer in the house. In the summer we used to have to leave all windows and doors open to get airflow through the house to cool it down and that did also not always help. We eventually purchased a mobile air conditioner to cool us down where we were sitting and this used to use a lot of power to run this aircon all day long. In the winters we used to walk around in jackets and we had to run the heaters all the time to get the temperatures in the bedrooms higher. The house was like a fridge and not very cosy. Our electrical bill in the winter used to be very high due to the constant heaters that were running inside the house.
After
We have a aircon in the main bedroom and i have now disconnected the power cable because it is no longer needed. In the summer the house is a constant 24 C and nice and comfortable. We are now a lot more inside the house in the summer during the very hot days because it is nice and cool inside. In the winter we close the bedroom windows and curtains at about 5 o'clock in the afternoon and then we have the house nice and warm throughout the evening and during the very cold days we light a fire in the fire place and the house is so warm inside that we can walk around in a t-shirt and not realise that it is infact so cold outside. Our electrical bill has reduced compared to the previous year and we use a lot less energy to get the house at a comfortable temperature.
I would recommend this product to anyone because of its efficiency and you are welcome to use me as a reference to any potential customers. Thank you for your profesional service!
